Hi Mike,
It sounds like a dead cmos battery that the one that powers the bios.
Im not shure on a 600e how to get into it. Ill post a question on the
thinkpad mailing list and hope to have an answer in a couple of days.
Where are you in the UK?
Im in dorset and if your near could help you.
