Some time ago I bought an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop.

On the whole Ive been pleased with the laptop but recently have come across
a couple of little niggles:

1. Although the power settings should turn screen off and put the system
into standby after 20 minutes I am only getting the screen to turn off. The
system itself does not go into standby. Ive tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Empowering Technology but to no avail. Any thoughts?

2. I am finding the the battery is only giving power for around 1.5 hours -
Im sure Ive had better than that in the past. Can anybody recommend
whether I should replace the battery with a higher capacity one? Comments
please.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

I dont know this model, so only generic advice: Check the BIOS
settings - you need S3 mode in the power settings, if thats available.
Does Empowering Techology override the Control Panel Power Settings?
Check those, just in case. Other things to look for are references in
Device Manager to allow this device to be turned off to save power
etc. - a check-box. Also turn-off any screen-savers you may have.

They just wear out. Most laptops Ive ever used needed a new battery
every couple of years or so. 1.5h is pretty good though - it might stay at
that
level for a year or more. Personally, Id avoid buying any ridiculously
cheap
new batteries from ebay and the like..
