Hi All,
As Im sure you are all aware, its a nightmare when trying to
buy computors etc.

For my first laptop is the TOSHIBA EQUIUM A200-1VO Laptop OK, or is the
processor already outdated?

Any advice welcome.

Regards,
Keith.

It depends what you want it for. It wont play a lot of the latest games
due to incompatibility with the built in Intel graphics (But then again,
the same goes for most laptops), its got a Dual core pentium processor,
but not the fastest, & a reasonable hard drive. Its got enough RAM for
Vista, which is what it comes with.

If its up to the normal Toshiba standard for build quality, its a good
solid workhorse machine. Ive got a Toshiba Portege 3110CT in regular
use thats 10 years old.

Itll be fine for office work, internet, photo editing, & audio editing
with the right interface, its not shown as having firewire, which means
video editing will be virtually impossible with it, unless your
camcorder uses mini DVD.

Its not cutting edge, but about where the cutting edge was a year & a
half ago.

If you like the screen & the keyboard, its not bad value, IMHO.

By some standards, *all* PCs are outdated the day they hit the shops, as
the next, greatest, thing is already in the warehouse. ;-)

And the one after that just came off the production line. :-D

Yes it is already outdated, as will be the next one you suggest, and so on,
ad infinitum.

This is an excellent way of saving money on not buying computers, keep it
up!

Hmmm... Im currently stalling on a laptop purchase for business use
because I want to get a fast C2D processor T7300-7500 in a lightweight
mobile package for virtulization use. Im a coder and dip into both MS
and Linux at times - so a speedy processor would be nice to hot
switch... but at the moment its about Ł900+ for Lenovos or HPs
offerings...

So, I either wait until the US market gets saturated (where most of the
faster Lenovo Thinkpad R61 and T series are sold) - and then they get
distributed here....

Or.... I just buy TWO identical cheaper, slower CPU laptops from someone
and lug both of them around - but then I have two machines, twin
screens, redundancy on parts if one dies - and one to run Windows, the
other Ubuntu - and stuff virtulisation.

Or.... I buy ONE very portable laptop, cheaper CPU and WiFi (or a
built-in 3G data card), and do everything on a meaty 24/7 server stuck
somewhere else on the net via Remote Desktop.

Choices, Choices, Choices ....

;-)

Thanks for the replys guys,
I notice that DELL are selling some Inspiration 1520s off at Ł449. Same
memory as the Toshiba, but with a later chip. Ill probably go for that one.

Many thanks,

Keith.
