Anyone know a good source of recovery CDs for an Acer Aspire 3680,
preferably Vista?
Colleague has one where the HDDs died out of warranty and the
customer didnt burn the optional recovery CDs. Acer want the laptop
returning to them as a chargeable job that will presumably include
charging for a new HDD as well as the install.
Anyone know a source where I can buy a set of the original recovery
CDs?

Beware, these are NOT Operating system recovery disks. Just the drivers
for hardware (which can be freely downloaded from Acer support sites).

That operation is a money spinner for the owners....

I know exactly what they are but Acer do not provide drivers for Xp for this
laptop here in the UK and if they do I havent found them. Their customer
service/tech support is abysmal. I managed to get most of the drivers from
the Pan American site but Im still showing about 6 items under Device
Manager with yellow tags against them and I havent a clue what they relate
too or where to get the drivers, hence the reason I got a drivers cd from
the URL I provided. I really cant see why Acer dont provide drivers for Xp
for this laptop. I was asked for Ł50 from Acer to send the laptop back so
they could put the recovery partition back on and Vista, I hate Vista hence
the reason I formatted it and put Xp on. I knew all about that 10Gb recovery
partition but I decided to scrub that as well. Would it have been so
difficult to put a recovery/drivers cd in the package? No it would have
added about a couple of quid max. Ill tell you this though, Ill never
own/buy an Acer product again. I have an Acer 19inch WS TFT monitor and a
few other products. Ive never had to contact them for anything but the
minute I ask for drivers for Xp they dont want to know, terrible service.
