Hi,

Im looking to buy a new laptop for around to Ł500 mark but will go a little
higher if I need to.

Its been a few years since I last bough a laptop and technology has changed
quite a lot. Theres a lot more choices in Processors these days as well as
other built in features and Im finding it difficult to choose.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what make/models to buy and any
pointers to good retailers (online or shops)

A 15 or 17 widescreen would be big enough. It will be used mainly for
Business type applications but I would still like to be able to play some
games on it such as Far Cry and Half Life 2, It would need wireless, USB2,
at least 1 PCMCIA slot and a CD/DVD writer.

Im getting the feeling that I may not find what I am after in the Ł500-Ł600
range so any advise would be greatfully received.

Cheers

I glanced a tv advert tonight for acer laptop in pc world for Ł550 and
it has a decent processor and 2gig ram .

Windows (regardless of what version) always seems to run better the more
ram it has .

The old joke being ... what intel giveth ... microsoft taketh away :-)

Your post will get about 20 responses, each one recommending a different
laptop. Ignore them all.

PCMCIA slots would appear to be going out of fashion.

Quite a number of Laptops come with SD card readers (and other card types),
Bluetooth is another technology to consider.
