Hello,
my HP laptop cant see the wireless net, and the light of the wifi board
is off. Does anyone know if I have to turn on anything with the hardware...
or activate anything from the options?

Some laptops do have a switch somewhere that turns on wifi. Suggest you
read the manual. Other than that, possible it needs enabling in the
BIOS.

as Peter said theres a hardware switch either by keyboard functions or a
sliding switch on the machine.

fell for this on my daughters notebook..............looked everywhere except
under my nose, 50mm from my right hand...............for about 30
minutes.................there it was on the front of the comp somewhat
hidden in a darkish position.

Try checking in control panel/system/hardware/device manager.

Sounds like the device may be disabled.
