You may have noticed my posts ref LCD/TFT panel replacement. I have been
trying to repair a broken screen (beware of pens left on keyboards when
closing lids) with little luck in obtaining a panel in the UK or even
getting a compatible one that might work.

Well, to get the daughter back up and running, I bought her a Novatech Alpha
N T5500.............and I am very impressed with this machine. At first its
plain looks put me off but the high spec at a very good price forced my hand
to part with the readies. What the heck its only money. The T5500, 2 gig
ram and nvidia graphics make this machine a nippy little beast and the
X-Brite display easy on the eyes. The speakers, as with many notebooks are a
little weak/tinny but hey they can only be 20mm diameter under there. DVDs
played via Cyberlink are very good. WiFi was easy to set.

I also opted for the NO OS and installed a new copy of XP SP2 Home. Vista is
too new and has too many issues for my older software.

I have no allegiance too Novatech, in fact a run in with them a year or so
back has never really turned me away from them due to their good prices and
more importantly close proximity to my home for assistance/return if need
be.

This machine is well worth a try............especially those that want a
fairly high spec unit with the NO OS option.

DJ
the broken screen is on a Novatech Mitac 8640 c2002 by the way and it was
and still is going strong when mated up with my Samsung 215TW monitor. Mind
you these do run hot and the fans are/were noisy. I will remain on the trail
of a new panel.
