Don;t know the A100 but if it has a 32-bit PCMCIA slot then pretty much any
card will do, subject to there being drivers for whatever O/S youre
running. Alternatively USB based cards are available but make sure you have
USB 2.0 ports as 1.1 ports are slow and you wont get good performance.

I use a Netgear card but I believe theyre all pretty much the same.
Someone might suggest makes that are slightly better/worse than others.

Alternatively, do you have a mini-PCI slot? Youll find it hidden under a
panel under the machine if you do. If you do, and there are two thin wires
ending in small brass plugs close by, then your PC is outfitted for a
mini-PCI wireless card. These are about Ł15.00 on eBay (the Intel ones seem
OK). They slot into the mini-PCI slot and the cables are the antenna leads
which push fit onto two sockets on these cards.

Im not a fan of the USB ones. I prefer to leave the PC card ones where you
can leave the card in place when putting it in a bag. I purchased one of the
Tesco ones for one of my Laptops ( A Dell), I think I paid something like
Ł19.99, its actually a Belkin card and it works fine.

Hows the coverage? My Netgear juts out a little so the antena is not
shielded by the PC case. If you Belkin is totally enclosed, I would have
expected the range to be poor.

No the aerial sticks out about 1/2 an inch or so. It works fine. Worls well
in public places as well using wifi hot spots.

Ah, just like mine then. My laptop case has less wiggle room so I pop my
wi-fi card out before packing to avoid possibly damaging the antenna if the
case gets knocked.

I bought a Dell L400 from Sterlingxs for around Ł200 as I wanted a really
lightweight laptop to carry around when out and about in London and the like
so I can catch up with my email, listen to some internet radio or watch a
bit of TV if having a coffee somewhere. I keep the card in all the time.
They even threw in a nice leather Dell laptop case for it that is a tight
fit, but the laptop does bit in with the card left in.
