As header, any recommendations for an external USB hard drive around
80gig. I have looked at Seagate, but Freecom seem to offer a wide range.
TIA for any feedback.
Paul.

There is nothinng stopping you buying any hard-drive of your own choice and
sticking it into an external USB tray.

Yes, I think this is the way to go if youre reasonably happy tinkering
around with stuff. Last time I looked on Ebay there were many USB
enclosures for hard drives to choose from, and all pretty cheap. Some
are for 2.5 inch drives (the ones generally used for laptops), others
are for 3.5 inch drives. Once youve got one, you can install a drive
of your choice.

Once youve installed a drive, you need to initialise it and format it.
These are not difficult in Windows XP. With 3.5 inch drives I found
there are some settings of the jumper on the HDD pins that make the
drive invisible to the computer, but with a bit of experimenting you
can sort this out.

Better still, buy an AV HDD enclosure, complete with a remote control and
gain the ability to use the HDD unit as a standalone
MP3/DVD/Video/Audio/JPEG slideshow viewer as well as a storage device to add
to your PC....
