Pleased to read that some if not all Acer laptops have built in mikes, any
other brand which do ?

To those who own a new Acer laptop - Is the mike any good though ?

You would be better to ask which laptops DONT have built-in mikes!

Hmm I dont know when I brought a Samsung near 2 years ago there was no mike
and it seemed a fair number of laptops at the time didnt have one either,
perhaps its vice versa now then ?

Or maybe built-in-mikes have gone the way of serial ports, parallel ports,
and many other useful accessories?

I have no idea why anybody would want a notebook with a built in mic
anyway? As it is like putting your ear inside of the laptop. As you can
hear the keyboard, HD, CD/DVD, the fan, etc. I never had a notebook with
a built in mic, but I have chatted with people who did with VoIP. And it
is just awful to listen to all of that. Why would anybody want one?

I have bought an Acer 5672WLMI as a stand in whilst my T42 is in for
repair.

The Acer has a built in mic which is complete rubbish, you can just about
be heard if your mouth is down by the left hand side of the keyboard. This
is with the Mic settings all on max.

T42 by the way does not have one, I have found getting a really cheap Mic
on a lead is fine for VOIP so you can use the speakers on the laptop
without feedback from the built in Mic.

Hope that Helps, by the way the Built in webcam on the 5672WLMI is average,
usable but not as good as a Phillips Toucan Pro.

Sure it does! Its under the keyboard surround right above the Esc key,
works a treat.
