I have an external monitor connected to my laptop & have always used
both the external & laptop monitors together. I switched the items on,
as usual and the warm up screen appeared on the external monitor &
after about 10 seconds the screen disappeared from the external monitor
& the warm up continued on the laptop monitor.

I have tried 2 different external monitors, as I thought the ext one
had broke but the same thing happens. I have NOT added any software or
changed any settings. The external monitor clicks on and clicks off, its
as if its been thrown off but I dont know why.

Can anyone throw any light on the matter please

Check the monitor settings in Control Panel.

There is normally a keyboard icon (probably over one of the number keys)
that can be used to toggle between monitors. On the machines I have used you
normally press the FN (or similar maked key) and the corresponding key on
the keyboard to toggle settings. Give it a try.

Success. if you press Fn and F5 key it toggles between each screen and
also allows both monitors to be used at the same time.

Thanks for all your help.
