Hi there,

First off, apologies for the cross-post - wasnt sure which forum to
post on.

My M700 has an intermittent problem resuming from standby (waking from
s3 suspend to RAM) in Windows XP SP2.

It will always suspend happily, and the little power light flashes on
and off, but it will only wake up about 2/3 of the time. Very
frustrating. I have tried:

- Installing all the Compaq utilities, including the System
Enhancements Disc which is supposed to solve an S3 wake problem:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/armada/us/download/16249.html
- updating the BIOS to the newest version (03/15/2002)

I have also checked the event log, and sometimes the failed wakeup
seems to be associated with two error messages, which I have pasted at
the bottom of this post.

However, sometimes these error messages appear in normal operation,
with no adverse affects, and sometimes a failed wake event will show no
ACPI error.

So, all in all, Im flummoxed! Dont know whether its a hardware
thing, or a Windows thing, or how to find out. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

heytherejohn

I should have also said that when I say that it doesnt wake up, I
mean:
The power light comes on, and the screen backlight turns on again. HDD
spins up etc. But screen remains blank and keyboard unresponsive. ie.
caps lock doesnt respond or anything.

Full spec:

Armada M700
700 Mhz
392mb RAM
DVD-ROM
30gb (non-standard) hdd, but same problem on standard HDD.

thanks!

Download the latest bios update and flash the bios. At least then you know
it is, or is not, a corrupted bios.

When i first got the laptop from a friend it had XP on and wouldnt
resume at all.

I reinstalled XP and tested it a couple of times on the blanks system,
and resume worked fine. then i carried on installing software and
drivers, and it seemed to be fine, but turned out to be intermittent at
resuming.

does anyone know any way of identifying which piece of software or
which driver is to blame?

Its kind of a crap shoot. Could be either a driver or application hang.
As far as a way to track it when it doesnt come out of standby, I knowof
no way.
