Ivw managed to get the battery out of the laptop, its a Sanyo CR16 I think,
anyway it has 2 wires stuck to it by small silver lumps, which is sealed in
a packet, How or where would I be able to replace this with one that already
has these wires connected to it. Thanks if you can put me on the right track

Pull the 2 wires off the old battery, using pliers.
Place the metal tabs on the replacement battery, get the polarity right.
Tape in position, using sticky plastic insulating tape, well-stretched,
about 2 ply should do.
They will last for years!
Honest, I have 3 laptops using this method.

Thats one way I suppose, there are also batts available on ebay, they are
for M700 advertised but do the same as a N400, Most of the Compaq
Armada/Presario/Evo are the same anyway, they cost Ł3.50 from China + same
in shipping
