Time 7321 laptop

Whenever it boots the monitor turns on for about 2s before turning off
permanently. I am unsure quite where the fault might lie - could it be the
monitor/video chip/something else?
If it helps, Ive found out that it is possible to hold down the button that
turns the monitor off when you close the lid, boot the computer and then let
go of the button. The monitor then comes on as before, for around 2s before
turning off again.

Many thanks

Have just tried connecting to an external monitor and that works fine. Do I
therefore assume the monitor/invertor is at fault and the video chip is
fine?

Many thanks

In opposition to your friend over there whos trying to get out of the sun,
take the laptop into the sun or a strong light source, youll just be able
to see the display on the panel. This will tell you if its a dead
invertor.

Read WARMING below for reading on...

Looking at getting a replacement off eBay or a dealer. Tell the NG the
model and theyll tell you whether its easy to replace etc. Often it can
be easier to replace the entire LCD and backlight combined purely because
the backlights are fraglie and easily broken.

But you might find a dealer who will do it for you. There are a few in the
London area but I cant recommend any since I just bought a replacement LCD
complete off eBay when I have a similar problem.

WARNING: It might not be the backlight. I have a Compaq Presario (pause to
spit at ground) where the power to the inverter was broken. Complete
motherboard from eBay was required and I confirmed that the inverter and LCD
were fine with the new motherboard.
