Hi

I bought a secondhand Atlas Flyer 3400 by Hi-Grade which had a fault. I was
told that it was, Flushed out with a bad bios.

It will enter the Bios screen, and I can change settings OK

but when I try booting it stops at SDRAM at DIMM # 1

See Picture http://freespace.virgin.net/peter.trudgeon/Laptop Fault.jpg

It will not boot to Floppy, DVD/CD or Hard Drive/ although these are
recognised in the Bios setting.

Any advice would be appreciated as I have never taken a Laptop to pieces. I
have built PCs so know a little. Would shorting the bios chip out for
example be any use? And how could I do this?

Thank you in advance,

Peter

Could simply be a memory fault?

Looks pretty normal?

Are you able to bypass the memory fault though (if not it would
explain the failure to boot)?

Sounds dangerous! Id just remove the cover underneath that (probably)
holds the memory (or expansion memory possibly) and remove the memory
module and see what happens after that. If it isnt externally
available it may be found inside (under the keyboard for example) or
worse built onto the system board (expensive).

Good luck ..

Thank you Tim,

How would I try to bypass the memory fault - would this be a specific key -
I have simply tried pressing return and enter.

Will try to remove memory chip tomorrow and report back.

Thanks again,

Peter

Hi Tim,

I removed the memory and put it into the second empty slot and it booted up
to the same point.

I removed the memory and tried booting without and nothing happened.

Problem I have no way of testing the memory chip without the laptop loading
dos or windows.

Any ideas?

It does a running check early on booting which looks a bit like checking
memory but it happens so fast I cannot see it.

Best Wishes,

Peter

You could try flushing it out with a good bios, presumably from the
Hi-Garde website.
