Have acquired an advent 5470, with setup password set to something -
so I cant get in
I presume if I remove the CMOS support battery and replace it, it will
reset the password to nothing...problem is where is the battery !!
Doesnt appear to be under any of the removable items, or the keyboard
Anyone know ?

Also - does anyone know what the 8 way DIL switch settings are ?

Try looking for a program called killcmos. Could be in zip format.
Anyway be aware that your virus software will think there is a virus in
there. There isnt.

This program is able to reset the cmos in many laptops without you
needing to remove anything. Hopefully it will work with your Advent.

Thanks for that - and it would be ideal if I could boot from floppy..
But floopy boot is turned off, so I cant do that...
Hence the quest for the CMOS battery ;-)

The Cmos battery only keeps the clock settings, you will not lose the system
password as simply as this. Google might put you in touch with a certain
Aussie guy who does this for a living, but be aware it is not cheap, and
involves internal soldering.

What about booting from CD? It might be possible to put all the
killcmos files onto a bootable cd. Take a look here it could be useful:

Only boot from HD is allowed...
