Hi, I have a Gericom Hummer (755INO) laptop with a BIOS date of
11/05/03 Version: 08.00.09.
Ive been getting a lot of intermittent Firewire and USB problems,
particularly regarding external drive recognition. From what Ive read
this can be caused by many things but its often reported that a BIOS
update can help.

I downloaded the BIOS update file from the Gericom site. Its in the
form of an *.IMG file. Inside it, the bios.rom component is dated
17/05/2005, which seems to indicate that its a lot more recent than
my existing one.

Please can anyone comment on the above info?

My main question though, is how do I get this update into my
floppyless Laptop?
Is making a bootable CD of it going to do the trick?
What concerns me most is that I understand that a process can write
back to and modify a floppy but not a CD. This may not matter for this
procedure but I thought Id ask just in case. :-)

OK, well I took a chance, did it anyway and fortunately, all went
well. My BIOS is now updated by a couple of years. Whether this will
directly help with firewire and USB external drive recognition is yet
to be seen.
