I have a Toshiba laptop 4090CDS, which was running on win98FE, I have
installed XP and I dont think it is my imagination but the fan seem to
working more now, would you expect the laptop to be working harder using XP?

Yes probably - or 98 just wasnt controlling it properly. That must be
quite sluggish now though...

the fan seems to stay on all the time now, starts up when I start
opening any applications and stays on, maybe I need to alter some
settings somewhere?

Perhaps its trying to cool down that awful screen.

Sorted, went into the BIOS, change the settings from performance to
quiet, appears to be still operating at the same speed and no fan
buzzing away.
