Ive got an ACER 1682WLMi and its very nice and performs excellently,
i had a few problems with it (With prosumer audio apps) and now ive
managed to sort them out i think (Full test this weekend).
Acer support has been excellent so far, only takes a few minutes to
get through and they are really helpful, ive read loads of reports on
how slow they can be to repair products though, so lets hope i dont
have problems. :D
I was tempted to swap the 1682WLMi for the 3023WLMi when i first
started getting problems but ive been reading up comparing the two
models and i think im sticking with what i have.
Basically the 3023 on paper looks much better, but i wanted something
with some good performance and after looking around on the net the
pentium-ms (Centrino) seem much better than the Semprons for my
choice of apps, also they run much cooler which is important as when
im recording i can be sitting for many hours with the machine at full
speed.
I think for games etc the 3023 is the better spec though, even then
its only marginal as i beleive the X600 gfx card is similar to the
9700 fitted to the 1682, just on a PCI Express bus which when looking
at comparison tables gives about 5% boost over the 9700. Its all
quite confusing as the write up on the acer site puts the 3023 well
above the 1682.. But whats the real deal here?!
What i will say about the 1682 is that its incredibly quiet, when
using the net etc the processor drops down to about 200-500mhz (From
1600Mhz) and so the fan speed drops too.. In fact the only noise you
can hear is when you use the cd/dvd drive in this situation which was
a big surprised.
I expect the 3023 is similar, although im totally unaware of what
Powernow! is like in comparison to intels speedstep technology.
I made my decision but it took many days to make and in this heat its
enough to wear you down i can tell you.
Good luck whatever :D
