Hi

I have a Toshiba laptop which will not work on the mains and will not charge
the battery

The battery type is PA3098U-1BRS

I can buy the battery but I need to charge it

Is there a seperate battery charger I can buy?

Google would be my friend if I wanted power adapters.

I want to charge the battery externally.

buy a lab / bench power supply off ebay, one with current limiting and
voltage limiting, youll still have to watch it but it will do the job.

if its a 14.4 volt battery you set the above type of charger to 2 amperes
and 16.8 volts

Hi Den... Google is still your friend! I dont know what model of laptop
you have. So searching for me is a bit more time consuming. But search
for:

PA3098U battery charger

And it looks like on this web page:

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Toshiba Battery charger external /
PA3091U1CHG/270985/

And it looks like you want is a Toshiba PA3091 battery charger. Check
the compatible model numbers of your laptop to make sure I got the right
battery charger model number.

I got several Toshiba battery chargers off of eBay as little as 99 cents
a piece. And while my laptops do charge their own batteries, I like
those professional Toshiba Li-Ion chargers better. As I also have a
great Li-Ion general purpose charger, but one mistake on the settings
and the battery goes BOOM!

Cheers!
