Probably - it depends what your main usage is.

If you need a computer for gaming then the desktop is the way to go.
However, if you mainly use it for general web browsing, email etc then a
lappie is a good bet. A couple of things to remember though. A desktop if it
breaks down can quite easily be repaired outside of the warranty by yourself
with standard parts (generally) but a lappie if it goes tits can be much
harder to repair and will usually cost a lot more to repair.

Possibly look to get an extended warranty for a lappie which will of course
eat into your Ł750.

Id suggest you look around as well. I went for a laptop replacement for my
old desktop but there can be problems. Firstly my first one went wrong after
only 6 months and I suspect that was down to getting too hot, which modern
laptops seem to suffer badly from. So I invested in a laptop cooler for the
second (a good investment and the difference is very noticable) machine.
Having said that I dont personally believe a laptop is generally as
reliable as a desktop. I actually went back to using my old 766 desktop as
for general web surfing etc its fine.

I tend to use my laptop for taking with me (To play DVDs on etc) when Im
away, but I got so concerned dragging this Ł1000 machine around with me I
actually spent Ł350 on a secondhand Dell laptop which I now use more than my
main laptop!!!! At least with that if I drop it or it gets nicked from a
hotel room Im not going to be that bothered and I invested in a portable
DVD player!!

So now my main laptop hardly ever gets used at all. So why did I buy it? I
dont really know!!!
