i recently sold a laptop which seemed to be faultless. Now there seems to
be an intermittent fault where the screen moves, becomes blurry and seems
very faint. I havent seen it myself a completeshutdown including closing
the lid seems to cure it. This leads me to believe this is a loose
connection ribbon failure? is this costly to repair?

Not expensive if it is the ribbo. It seems to be a power supply to the
LCD problem.

What an utterly completely useless answer. May I also suggest an adult
education course in English?

parts may not be expensive but anything to do with laptops cost lots in
labour. a local business man told me a while ago that the majority of
faults are ribbons. ive seen cheap ribbons on the sinclair ql (1984) no
end of trouble. I should think this is a connection that runs through the
hinges but still supplies current and pixel address data as closing the lid
reboot and reopening fixes it. Although not asked for i gave a 3 month
warranty as well as 4 hours worth of free training and set up her internet
connection. I even supplied a free 10meter extension cable so she could use
the laptop on a proper computer table instead of on her lap in the hall. I
also fixed her printer while i was there for free and gave Ł50 trade in for
her old 486 66 8mb ram system. I am merely investigating the cost if
worthwhile of repair or simply replacing unit. I have enough spare parts to
build a desktop with a far superior specifcation to the laptop as means as
recompense. As a private sale and not even a self employed one i am not in
the least bit obliged to do anything but the mainstay of my teaching
business and occasional hardware sale is word of mouth recommendation.

As for Osprey you are a complete idiot!!!

Ian,

What laptop is it? Have you tried reseating the LCD harness? Could be that
the connections to the Inverter are not seated properly?

Thanks,

Lee.
