I see laptops with 14 and 15 screens both described as being designed to
be run at 1024x768. I presume that 1024x768 is more suited to 14 screens
and that this resolution on a 15 screen would look /stretched/. Is this
correct?

Well. each pixel must be slighly bigger, but the naked eye would hardly be
able to see this. If you look at the 15, 17 and 19 TFT monitors in say,
PCWorld, all running at 1024 by 768, the 19 looks just as sharp to my old
eyes, even wearing specs., as does the 15, viewing from the same distance.

Of course, my old Dell Inspiron 5000 with its 15 screen running at 1400 by
1050 (its native res.) looked ultra sharp, and you got more info on-screen
for your money. UXGA screens are in a different class to the run-of-the-mill
SXGA stuff, and I hear that super UXGA is now available. Where will it all
end? I suspect that pricing is behind the present obsession with 1024 by 768
no-matter-what-screen-size phenomenon.

19 TFT monitors at Ł299 would have laughed you out of the shop 2 years ago.
