Ive got a couple of Dells, one which came with XP Pro and one which
came with XP Home. Each laptop came with its own XP restore disk.

Would I be able to swap versions of XP from one laptop to another or
even put XP Pro on both machines? Would the XP activation thingy allow
this?

Probably not, but its still two licences on two machines if you just swap..
