Hi.

I ordered a Laptop through Dell Outlet midday on Wednesday and the form I
printed when ordering said that my order would be, confirmed by e-mail
shortly. I have not yet heard anything.

I mailed their sales query address about confirmation late Thursday and got an
automated response saying One of the Dell Outlet representatives will be in
contact with you in the next 4 working hours. Again no response.

Is this typical?

Possibly. Im still waiting for order confirmation for a server ordered on
2nd July. 1 email & 2 phone calls later, nothing. OTOH the laptop I ordered
on the 7th is already in transit for delivery on Monday. Some departments
seem broken at the mo but its not universal.

Thanks for the info. I assume from above that you do get notification of the
delivery date. That was one of the questions I asked in my mail to them - I
need to ensure that there is someone in on the day.

In theory you get an email from Dell Orderwatch telling you the order number
& your customer number. Then you can track it online. Eventually you get an
order confirmation letter as well, but for the laptop mine arrived this
morning. I had a phone call yesterday afternoon from the courier arranging
delivery on Monday & Ive been tracking the delivery on the Couriers
website since yesterday morning.

Ive never yet used the dept youve ordered from and I expect they have
differewnt procedures. Not least as the machines are already built so
theres not much point in tracking the building process. Id try calling
them, but beware one of my calls ended up in India and I didnt get any
useful answers :(

Well it happens now and then. Same here in Germany.

Weve ordered a laptop and didnt recieve any confirmation. Since my
friend was still into Toshiba, he was owning one for several years,
that time and he got a offer for a Toshiba we withdrew our Dell order
laptop referring to missing confirmation. But now the surprising thing
in it: to keep us as Dell coustumers they went down in price for about
EUR 200-300. Sorry, but cant remember exactly the drop, at least
200plus.

Markup? Yes, but any offer digs into their profits.
And while many companies have massive markup, they dont get to make massive
profits from them.

The actual profit from a single laptop order may in reality be only 5% -
10%.
